FALLOUT 3 REVIEW

Fallout 3 has a notorious reputation as an amazing RPG/ shooter. reviews are always high and people seem to love it. I'm not one of those.
the plot is fairly simple and gets more complex as you go along. which to its credit works. i find if you can follow the story you will be more engaged in what is happening.

The graphics and environments are pretty awe inspiring. when you first leave the vault you feel like you are almost in another world. which i quite enjoyed. plus apart from occasional pausing usually whilst saving i didn't have any major glitches.

Gameplay is pretty standard apart from a VATS system where you can pin point parts of your enemy to shoot. i thought it was great at first. then very rapidly the game turned against me. i found myself getting killed by literally everything. the VATS became vital in trying to defeat enemies. however you need AP in order to use it which runs out fast. so half the time i was hiding in a corner waiting for it to fill back up so i could take another shot at whatever creature i was fighting.

Another part is the creatures health, especially the super mutants, they have so much health its stupid. i takes forever to kill anything that isn't a raider. which also uses your bullets quicker than eclairs disappear at a weight watchers meeting.

The missions themselves are short and doesn't take long to complete. the strange part is the side missions is where most of the game is played. however you have to find a certain person in order to start the mission. which is like finding a needle in a haystack. tie that in with the fact that the navigation system was a complete thorn in my side the whole time. i literally found myself looking at a walkthrough time and time again to work out where i was supposed to be. Once i met fawkes things became too easy. he literally kills everything. which was good and bad at the same time.

Achievements are pretty down the middle. if you complete the side missions each one gives you an achievement and the story missions are the same. there are also achievements getting up to a certain level with a different moral ground. meaning you have to play it three times and change your karma for each. personally i find this to be a cheap way of making you play the game again.

Overall i found this game to be a major thorn in my side which made me rush to the ending. in my opinion that makes a bad game. loads of people will ignore my opinion and continue to buy this game and thats fine. but this game is going to sit firmly on my shelf and not move for a very long time.
